Why Set Up Your Timesheet

5/16/2017

A comparison of life WITH your Timesheet set up vs WITHOUT.

WITH TIMESHEET SET-UP:
  • Your work-in-progress appears magically - 0 seconds per day (="s/d")
  • You work on five Project-Phases. Click edit for each - 1 s/d x 5 = 5 s/d.
  • Enter times and descriptions. This is a wash because you have to do it with either method.
  • You work on some Project-Phases more than once. This is a wash because you have to edit them the same way with either method.

WITHOUT TIMESHEET SET-UP:
  • Click "Add Time Entry" - 1 s/d
  • Click Project-Phase drop down menu - 1 s/d
  • Scroll to Project-Phase - 1 s/d
  • For five Project-Phases = 3 x 5 >> 15 s/d

COMPARISON:
WITHOUT minus WITH: 15 s/d - 5 s/d = 10 s/d

Assuming 240 work days per year x 10 s/d = 2,400 seconds per year, or 40 minutes of time saved (minimum).

PLUS:
You are more likely to complete your Timesheet daily = more accurate and more up-to-date time records = better project management decisions.

Once you have a couple dozen Project-Phases, the WITHOUT method takes even longer to find the Project-Phase you want. And the aggravation involved helps you to justify postponing the task of time entry, a slippery slope.

Life is better using the WITH method.
